13th Annual Tonesha Walker Memorial Basketball Tournament

This past weekend, our school hosted the 13th Annual Tonesha Walker Memorial Basketball Tournament, welcoming nine teams for an exciting weekend filled with energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to our boys team on earning bronze, and to our girls for bringing home gold!

This annual tournament was renamed in honour of former Chargers player Tonesha ‘Toni’ Walker following her tragic passing in 2012. Tonesha was remembered by her coach as “a phenomenal player and teammate — one of the hardest workers on and off the court, and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Her smile was contagious and lit up the halls of our school. She was on track to graduate early and was destined to do great things.”

Members of Tonesha’s family were in attendance and presented the Toni Award to Chargers player Gillian Blackhurst. Awarded each year, the Toni Award recognizes an athlete who plays with heart, hustle, and, above all, sportsmanship. — qualities that truly reflect Tonesha’s spirit.

Thank you to all who helped make this important tournament a success: the players, coaches, parents, referees, volunteers, and supporters who came together to honour Tonesha’s beautiful legacy through her love of basketball and sport.
